BARK is a cultural network with a mission to provide equal opportunities for children and youth to engage in high-class cultural experiences and to promote children’s culture in Ostrobothnia and Kokkola. BARK believes that culture must be brought close to children and youth, and access to culture should not depend on the place of residence or the adults’ interest or economic situation.
We designed a visual language for BARK that acts as a toolbox of assets and elements. These elements are flexible and can be combined and reconfigured in any number of ways. This flexibility makes the identity system more useful to BARK in the long term. Our reimagining of their existing mark of a ship turns it into a childs boat made from birch bark and adds an alder leaf as a sail, the alder being the official tree of Ostrobothnia.
